Principal's Report

On Tuesday 27 May, we completed a second walk through of the STEM building. It is very exciting to see this building being fitted out and ready for hand over on Monday 30 June. Lockers have already arrived and soon furniture will be installed. It will be used for Systems Technology, Science, Maths, Woodwork, Metalwork and Art classes in the future. It will be the Year 8 Centre in 2026.

Students have been elected to SRC positions and meetings are now scheduled regularly. Congratulations to:

Presidents: Rhys Coverdale, Rayanne Naeimei

Vice Presidents: Akain Perera, Paehal Sharma

Treasurer: Aishmeen Kaur

Secretary: Suhani Liyanage

SRC members: Maria, Riley, Ovi, Amberlynne, Audrey, Sarleen, Shristi, Basuru, Arya, Alyssa, Ayush.

The first SRC event was on 19 May to celebrate Education Week with a theme of Celebration of Cultures. The SRC students planned for students to share food from their culture with other students at lunchtime. This was a very successful event with many different foods shared. Thank you to SRC members for organising the event and parents and carers who supported this at home with the preparation of food.

See more photos of this event in the gallery section.

Our students who attended Close the Gap Day earlier this year created this beautiful art work with students from other secondary schools and Indigenous artist Sam Richards. We will have a copy printed, framed and installed in the foyer of our school.

We applied for a grant from Connecting with Indian Communities to incorporate Indian Dance in our dance classes. Our application was successful. Later this term, dance teachers from GS Heer Bhangra Academy will teach students an Indian Dance in their Dance classes. Thank you to Ms Devenyns and Ms Entwistle for including these lessons in their program. We will celebrate with an end of term dance-a-thon on the outdoor courts (or in the gymnasium) at lunchtime on the last day.

Last week, the Sikh Volunteers travelled to NSW to flood affected areas to help support people in need by providing 2000 meals a day. One of our students, Jasnam and his family are very involved in this work. Providing free meals has a widespread and positive impact on those who are dealing with challenges from natural disasters.

The Sikh Volunteers would like to buy a bigger truck so that they can continue their good work on a bigger scale.

On 27 June we have our Reporting Writing and Professional Learning Day for semester one. Some staff are continuing work on curriculum documentation while others are completing the Prevention Intervention Training. This is a student free day. We start Semester 2 on 30 June for one week. The majority of classes start a new unit of learning. The Dance/Drama classes will swap to take up Systems Technology and the System Technology classes will swap to take up Dance/Drama for the semester.

Reports will be posted on the last day of term, Friday 4 July.

Cyber Safety Project Live Webinar - Parent Information Session. 7pm - Wednesday 25 June

Wulerrp Secondary College has engaged the Cyber Safety Project to deliver a live webinar to parents and carers. The session will be presented online at 7 - 8pm, Wednesday 25 June. Please register using the link in the attachment.

Cyber Safety Project Information Session Wed 25 June pdf

On Wednesday 25 June, the Year 7 students will attend an information session presented by the Cyber Safety Project team at school. It is hoped that the two sessions will encourage and facilitate conversations about these important topics in the home and at school.

For young people today, growing up digital is a whole new world. Learning safe practices and strategies for maintaining a positive digital reputation starts in the home. Building a positive and healthy family environment where digital use is encouraged, but managed effectively, can be a tough balance.

This session aims at providing parents and guardians with insights and important information about popular social networking and gaming platforms trends. We will discuss ways to ensure children remain safe with the use of privacy settings and steps to build positive digital habits using proactive tools. To help you support your young people to be confident, independent, and safe digital users, we explore important conversations to help families ‘start the chat’. We unpack the facts about the laws regarding digital consent and cyberbullying, as well as strategies and resources to seek help when things go wrong online

Exciting News – Our New STEM Centre is Nearly Complete!

We are thrilled to announce that our brand-new, state-of-the-art STEM Centre is on track for completion and will be officially handed over at the end of Term 2! Even more exciting – it will be ready to welcome students and staff for classes from the very beginning of Term 3.

This dynamic new learning space has been purpose-built to inspire innovation, creativity, and collaboration across Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. Featuring flexible learning environments, modern labs, breakout zones, and the latest in digital and design technology, the STEM Centre will be a game-changer for our students' learning experiences.

The building project has progressed smoothly over the past months, and it’s been wonderful to watch the Centre take shape. We’re confident this new facility will spark curiosity and deepen engagement in STEM across all year levels.

Staff are currently preparing curriculum plans to make full use of the amazing new facilities, and students can look forward to hands-on, inquiry-based learning from the very first day of Term 3. We can’t wait to see the impact this space will have on our school community.

The future of STEM at our school is bright, and this is only the beginning!

Junior School Report

It’s a busy time of term at Wulerrp Secondary College, with assessments currently underway or about to begin. It has been encouraging to see many of our students rising to the challenge and adapting positively to the increased academic demands. We understand that the transition from primary to secondary school can be a significant adjustment and it’s wonderful to witness our students demonstrating resilience and growth.

As communicated via Compass recently, a reminder about our attendance processes was shared. We have consistently reinforced the importance of punctuality and daily attendance with students, and this was also a key focus at last year’s Parent Information Night. Regular attendance is a vital part of student success and is something we take seriously. Please ensure that any attendance matters are recorded on Compass to help your child avoid unnecessary detentions.

Last week, our students participated in the Citizens of the World program, delivered by Casey Youth Services. This one-off program focused on addressing bullying and antisocial behaviour, providing students with practical strategies they can use in both school and social environments. Key topics included:

  • Understanding bullying
  • The role of bystanders
  • Antisocial behaviour
  • Cyberbullying
  • Racism and discrimination
  • Online safety and responsible digital behaviour

This program has been a valuable opportunity to open up important conversations with our students around respect, inclusion and digital responsibility.

To further support our students and families, we are excited to welcome The Cyber Safety Project on Wednesday 25th June. They will deliver a student-focused session during school hours, followed by an online information session for parents and guardians in the evening. Details have been posted on Compass by Mr Kris Johnson.

The parent session will provide insights into current trends in social media and online gaming, practical strategies for promoting online safety through privacy settings, and tools to encourage healthy digital habits. It will also cover legal considerations around digital consent and cyberbullying and provide helpful resources for when things go wrong online.

As the winter weather sets in—especially with cold mornings—we remind families that school scarves and beanies are available for purchase from the uniform shop to help students stay warm while in full uniform.

Lastly, it has been fantastic to see the continued development of House culture at Wulerrp SC. A recent highlight was the Dodgeball Competition, organised by our dedicated House Captains and Mr McConnell. The event brought great energy and enthusiasm to the school, and we thank the organisers for their efforts. We look forward to seeing what future house events have in store!

Anti-Bullying Program

On Wednesday 28th May, we welcomed Tristan from the City of Casey Youth Services to deliver an engaging presentation to our students “Citizens of the World.” This program aims to address bullying and antisocial behaviour, providing young people with the knowledge and practical strategies to navigate both school and social environments respectfully and safely.

The presentation explored a range of important topics, including:

  • Understanding what bullying is
  • The role and power of bystanders
  • Identifying and responding to antisocial behaviour
  • The impact of cyberbullying
  • Challenging racism and discrimination
  • Staying safe while using online technologies

This was a valuable opportunity for students to reflect on their actions, develop empathy, and build their capacity to contribute positively to their communities—both online and offline. We thank Tristan and the City of Casey Youth Support Team for supporting our students in becoming informed, respectful, and responsible citizens.

Semester Reports

As we move closer to the end of the semester, our dedicated teaching staff are currently in the process of writing semester reports. These reports provide valuable insight into each student’s academic progress, classroom engagement, and areas for continued growth. We thank our teachers for their ongoing commitment to supporting student learning and development. Semester reports will be available in the last week of this term.

In the lead-up to report finalisation, we encourage all students and families to check Compass Learning Tasks regularly. This is an excellent opportunity to review any outstanding work and ensure all tasks are completed to the best of each student’s ability. Timely completion and submission of work is essential, as these tasks form a key part of assessment and feedback.

Need extra help?
Don’t forget that we offer After School Help every Thursday in the Library from 3:15pm to 4:00pm. This is a great chance for students to ask questions, get support with assignments, or catch up on unfinished work in a supportive and focused environment.

As always, we thank parents and carers for their continued support, and we encourage students to make the most of all the resources available to them as we head into the second half of the year.

Library

We have had a successful start to the Victorian Premiers Challenge with 475 books being read so far. We have 94 days left of the challenge, so please continue to encourage the reading at home. It is important that reading is associated with pleasure, so aim to make the experience of reading cosy and without pressure. We want reading to be a lifelong habit, something that supports their emotional and social development as well as a cognitive skill that will take them through their many educational and working days ahead of them.

Students now have access to eBooks and audiobooks through the library. With these additional digital texts, the library now has almost 6000 titles for students to read. Students need to be reading regularly to build their literacy, which will help their learning across the school curriculum. Audiobooks and eBooks are a great resource to help everyone find books they enjoy reading. Students can borrow two digital books at a time and can have them on loan for three weeks. This is as well as the ten physical books that can be borrowed from the library.

Our reading journey always starts with listening to someone reading a story. Listening to audiobooks mimics these experiences and can be a comforting experience that supports our wellbeing. There is also potential to share this experience with your child by listening to an audiobook together.

Check out these great titles:

Students that require a laptop can borrow one from the library. These are to be loaned for the school day only. Students need to borrow these before school and return them before they leave. The library is open from 8.15am and closes at 4.15pm, so there is plenty of time to access this service before they are meant to be in the classroom.

Please return your library books, so that other people can also read them. Thank you for your support.

Humanities Excursion - Student Report

The excursion to St Germain Central -

In the third week of term two, the Year 7 students went on an exciting excursion to St Germain. We had a task given by our amazing humanities teacher Miss Kavitha to complete.

Our task -

We had to check whether St Germain was a liveable place for our local community or not. Liveability is how accessible, safe, and comfortable a place is to live. Throughout our visit, we looked at interesting features like are people able to access healthcare services, are they able to access education and is the infrastructure good. We also checked if the place was a clean and safe environment.

Challenges we faced -

One of the most challenging parts of the excursion was walking a long way to get to St Germain and trying to sketch the layout of the location. There were people moving around that made drawing an accurate drawing including every little thing more difficult. We also had to deal with the wind blowing our worksheet away.

Sports Report

Year 7 AFL and Netball

Our AFL team headed to Sweeney Reserve for a full day of footy, taking part in four tough games. While we didn’t hit the scoreboard with any goals, the team gave it their all and showed great improvement with each match. Their effort, teamwork, and determination never wavered. From strong tackles to great communication on the field, the players supported one another and demonstrated true school spirit. It was awesome to see their resilience and sportsmanship on display.

Meanwhile, our netballers were over at Casey Stadium, battling it out in their own tournament. The girls played with great energy, teamwork, and a positive attitude across the day. Whether it was tight defense, sharp passing, or just lifting each other up between games, they gave it everything. They should be incredibly proud of how they represented themselves and the school.

What’s happening in PE this term?

This term, we have been focusing on Invasion games; games with a defensive and an offensive team on opposing sides. So far, we have played sports including Netball, Basketball, Ultimate Frisbee, Touch rugby and more variations of mini games within our lessons. Our PE sessions ensure a fun, safe environment in which we can feel respected and judge-free while trying new things. At the end of each session, the teachers give each class a score out of ten based on how well each student participated and the amount of effort or sportsmanship that everyone displayed. After giving each class a score, the teachers nominate a player of the day who worked outstandingly throughout the lesson, played fairly and showed impressive and more noticeable good sportsmanship.

Cross Country

Division Cross Country was a fantastic day for students showing their running endurance and stamina. We are immensely proud of the 31 runners that have gone to Division Cross Country. They have shown their running skills at an even more competitive level, as they have competed against various schools and their top runners. Special shoutout to Rishi and Alyssa who have qualified for Regional Cross Country.

Volleyball

Regional Volleyball Day at Dandenong Stadium was an electrifying experience. The boys delivered powerful serves, securing victories in most matches, narrowly missing state qualification. Meanwhile, the girls dominated the court, unleashing fierce shots that carried them all the way to regionals. Well done to both our teams making it this far.
