At this time of year, we are working on enrolments for 2026, which also means working on our planning for our teaching program and our needs for support staff. For 2026, we have employed three Japanese teachers (at Year 7 and Year 8), a Wood Technology Teacher, Art Teacher and Music Teacher. We are still advertising for a Food Technology Teacher. These four subjects will run as a taster at Year 8 which assists students to make choices for electives in Year 9 in 2027. For next year, we will be recruiting a Leading Teacher for Year 8 (and 9) as well as English, Humanities, Maths, Science and Health and PE staff over the rest of this term. Education Support roles will be advertised in Term 4. We are well underway with our staffing.
I sent a newsfeed to parents/carers about new staff starting this term. I also welcome new Year Level Co-ordinators, two of our experienced and highly capable teachers: Holly Entwistle and Tessa Devenyns stepping into the role part way through the year. I have full confidence in their ability to work in this role.
NAPLAN certificates for students are being posted out to parents. We have high performing students with 74% achieving in the Strong and Exceeding Bands in Reading and Numeracy and 72% in Writing. These are very pleasing results which are the result of the work of our primary schools from Grade 5 to end of Grade 6.
We will continue to have high expectations and to work with students so they continue to grow and achieve at this high level. Reading at home very strongly supports this learning growth so I ask parents/carers to remind students to do this regularly. Thursday afternoon help sessions are held in the library for students who want support outside of class. I encourage student attendance at these sessions as well.
The Department of Education has released several new policies: Preventing and Addressing Racism in Schools Policy and there have also been updates to the Suspensions and Expulsions policies to reflect changes to Ministerial Order 1125. The changes build on existing processes already in place.
Please follow the links above or view the Preventing and Addressing Racism on the tab in this newsletter. We have always addressed racism in school and will continue to do so. The new part of this policy is that we need to report it on the Department’s edusafe webpage.
Thank you to parents/carers for continuing to use the drop off and pick up point on the school side of Rivella Drive and for not doing u-turns (as this is unsafe and holds up the traffic). Just a reminder that dropping off on the school side of the road means students do not have to cross the busy road which is safer for them.
Upcoming dates
Wednesday 27 August Curriculum Day: Staff Professional Learning
Thursday 4 September: Student/Parent/Teacher Conferences (Students need to attend with their parents. No classes are running on this day).
I look forward to seeing you in the school.

Uniform Matters
School uniforms play an important role in shaping a positive and cohesive school environment. Beyond simply being part of the dress code, uniforms help create a sense of unity and belonging among students, fostering an atmosphere where everyone feels included. They also support a safe, focused, and respectful learning environment, ensuring that students can concentrate on their education without unnecessary distractions.
Parental support plays a crucial role in maintaining the school’s focus on uniform expectations. When parents actively reinforce the importance of wearing the correct uniform, it strengthens the partnership between home and school, ensuring consistent messages for students. This collaboration not only helps uphold the school’s values and standards but also teaches students responsibility and pride in their appearance. By working together, parents and the school create a united approach that benefits the whole school community.
In focus uniform breaches:
Out of Uniform
Students out of uniform must present a signed note from their parent/carer to the Junior School Office prior to attending class.
An ‘Out of Uniform Pass’ will then be issued for the day.
CCTV at our school
Wulerrp Secondary College has a closed-circuit television (CCTV) system installed at our school.
Our school has an obligation to ensure the school environment is safe and secure, and fulfil our duty of care to students, staff and visitors. The CCTV system will assist our school to fulfil these obligations and to prevent and manage other inappropriate behaviour on school grounds. CCTV will also provide enhanced capability to protect our school’s assets against vandalism and theft.
We are committed to following the Department of Education policy requirements for management and use of the CCTV systems.

We hope this newsletter finds you well. As we move further into Term 3, we would like to take this opportunity to share some important updates and reminders from the Junior School Team.
Staffing Update
We are excited to announce a change within the Junior School team. Please join us in warmly welcoming Holly Entwistle and Tessa Devenyns as our new Year 7 Coordinators. Both Holly and Tessa bring great experience, energy and a strong commitment to supporting students' engagement and learning. They are already working closely with the Year 7 cohort to ensure students are thriving both in and out of the classroom.
Year 7 Camp
We are pleased to share that preparations are underway for our upcoming Year 7 camp! This is a fantastic opportunity for students to build friendships, develop independence, and create lasting memories.
This year, the camp will be organised into two groups. More detailed information, including dates, activities, packing lists and payment options, will be shared with families in the coming weeks. Please keep an eye on Compass for updates.
Attendance and Punctuality
We would like to remind families of the importance of regular and punctual attendance. Being at school on time ensures your child starts the day settled and ready to learn. If your child is absent or late to school, we kindly ask that you log this on Compass as soon as possible.
As part of our duty of care, schools are required to account for all student absences and we appreciate your support in keeping these records accurate and up to date. Consistent attendance is essential for student progress and helps minimise any gaps in their learning.
Learning Visibility
To help you stay connected with your child’s education, please note that lesson plans are uploaded onto Compass for each subject. We encourage you to take a look to see what your child is learning and to use this as a conversation starter at home.
Important Dates
At our first assembly for Term 3, we were proud to recognise one student from each Growth Group with a Growth Award. These students were selected for consistently demonstrating our school’s GROWTH values — Growth, Respect, Opportunities, Wellbeing, Togetherness, and High Expectations, through our house point system. Each recipient achieved the highest number of Growth Points in Term 2 and has shown outstanding commitment to embracing and living out our school values in their everyday school life. We congratulate and thank these students for their dedication, positive attitude and the example they set for others.

Thank you for your continued support. If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out to a member of the Junior School team.
