Dear Parents and Guardians,
As we reach the end of our first school term, I want to take a moment to reflect on the events and achievements of the opening of our wonderful new school and settling our Year 7 students into learning at secondary school. I am incredibly proud of the students for making the transition from primary to secondary school so smoothly and very appreciative of our hard working and dedicated staff. I also express my gratitude for the support of parents, carers and our wider community for Wulerrp Secondary College.
Highlights of the Term
This term has been filled with exciting milestones. Our students have been dedicated in their academic work, extracurricular activities, and community involvement. From classroom successes to personal development, each student has contributed to making this a term to remember.
Some key highlights since the last newsletter include:
Thank you to the Sikh Volunteers for providing a free lunch for us on Harmony Day. The work that this organisation does is outstanding in supporting many areas of our community.

Looking Ahead: What’s Coming Next
Early next term we have our ANZAC Day assembly, period 2 (9.45am) on Thursday 24 April. Parents and carers are invited to attend. The Cross Country will be run on the same day in the afternoon.
Thursday 1 May is our Student/Parent/Teacher conferences. We are not running classes on this day but students are expected to attend with their parents/carers so that they can be part of the important conversations about their progress with teachers.
Thank You for Your Support. Your ongoing involvement, whether through reading at home your child, attending our Meet the Teachers Afternoon, reading and talking about the newsletter or attending school assemblies makes a world of difference.
Have a lovely holiday break.

Celebrating a Successful First Term of Growth at Wulerrp Secondary College
We are incredibly proud of our Year 7 students as they transition into secondary school and successfully complete their first term at Wulerrp Secondary College. This significant milestone is a testament to their hard work, resilience and eagerness to embrace new challenges.
One of the highlights of the term was our vibrant celebration of Harmony Day. Many students embraced the opportunity to celebrate diversity by wearing their cultural dress or donning orange to mark this important occasion. The school was filled with energy and excitement as students showcased their talent through solo and group dance performances. The atmosphere was buzzing with creativity and joy! Additionally, outdoor lawn activities were organised, giving everyone the chance to engage in friendly competition and enjoy the sunshine. We were also fortunate to have Sikh Volunteer Australia join us for this celebration. They generously provided a free meal for both students and staff, known as “Langar”—a tradition where the Sikh community offers food to all, regardless of cultural or religious background. We are incredibly thankful to the Sikh community for their kindness and for sharing such a delicious and meaningful meal with us.
Throughout the term, students have been working hard in their house groups to develop unique names, logos and chants that reflect their spirit. On April 23rd, each group will present their ideas to their peers and teachers. Students and teachers will vote for their favourite pitch and we’re excited to see the creativity and enthusiasm that each house will bring. We would also like to congratulate and acknowledge all students who applied for the role of House Captain. We are grateful for their leadership aspirations and we promise that more opportunities will arise throughout the year for students to take on leadership roles.
A special thank you goes out to Mr Brodie McConnell, who has been instrumental in fostering a strong sports culture within our Year 7 cohort. His dedication behind the scenes has allowed students to get involved in a variety of sports, creating a sense of unity and teamwork. We would also like to express our appreciation to the teachers who have volunteered their time to run lunchtime clubs, which have been a huge success in engaging students in meaningful activities outside the classroom.
The Year 7s have made an incredible start to their journey at Wulerrp Secondary College and we can’t wait to see what the rest of the year holds.

From Tuesday 22 April 2025, there will be additional stops added to the Clyde North – Wulerrp Secondary College School Special, giving students more travel options.
More information about this change can be viewed in the attached letter and map/timetable.
We recommend that students arrive at the bus stop at least 5 minutes before the scheduled departure time to avoid rushing and potentially missing the bus.
If you have any questions or require more information about this change, please contact nsc@transport.vic.gov.au.

Year 7 Volleyball
On Wednesday the 19th of March four teams went to Casey Stadium to participate in the Cardinia District Volleyball competition. All teams demonstrated great examples of sportsmanship and high levels of effort. Students all enjoyed the day and both Boys and Girls A team’s won the day and will be moving onto Regional Volleyball early next term. Thank you to Miss Sloothaak and Mr Cope for taking students on the day. All the best to those students participating next term.

On 20th March, it was the Close the Gap Day event at Bunjil Place. It was an engaging and educational event aimed at promoting cultural awareness. The day featured a range of activities that celebrated Aboriginal culture, including a collective art painting which will be used for future events, where each school painted a section of the canvas, a presentation by Monash Uni Hands on Health, a sports session run by Richmond Football Club, the students attended a cultural knowledge session with Uncle Lukey and heard an inspirational speech from Dr Justin Trounsen the wellbeing and community programs psychologist at Richmond Football Club. Attendees also enjoyed fun activities run through the Richmond Football Club – Korin Gamadji Institute. It was a fantastic day that encouraged everyone to connect with each other and appreciate the richness of Aboriginal culture. Everyone left with a greater sense of understanding and pride and excited to return to the event next year.

Student Report
On Thursday, March 20th, I attended Close the Gap Day at Bunjil Place. On the day, we met with students from other schools, including Alkira and Kambrya. We learned about our culture and created artwork on a large canvas, symbolizing the connection between all the schools and reminding us that nobody is alone.
We also painted on kangaroo fur and were able to take it home as a keepsake. We also participated in activities and learned about health from students at Monash University.
I really enjoyed connecting with my culture and meeting students from other schools. I'm especially grateful that I could share this experience with my cousin. I would also like to thank Miss Pook for staying with us for the day.
Riley, Year 7

The library has come a long way since the start of the year! We started with bare shelves, and we now have 1128 books. The library is becoming the welcoming, reading space of our dreams. The students are fabulous borrowers, and I wanted to thank all parents for their support and encouragement of reading at home. Please remind students that they are responsible for the resources they borrow from the library and the expectation is that they are returned in the same condition.
Students now have access to ClickView, both through the library catalogue and Compass. This is an amazing resource of video information that has been organised into curriculum areas. It also contains popular movies and television titles, and if you have a smart tv, students can login here and the whole family can access this content. Check out these popular titles this school holiday:
